Join the Team at Stardome

The Stardome Observatory is a charitable trust employing full time and part time staff members and working with a base of around 40 volunteers. It is a fast paced, dynamic and interesting working environment and one day is never the same as the next. From time to time, paid positions (both full and part time) do become available and you can find details of those opportunities here.

Holiday Volunteers

The Stardome Observatory in One Tree Hill runs a school holiday programme for children and we are looking for secondary school student volunteers to assist with our arts and craft activities. The upcoming programme runs from 6th to 16th April, we run 2 sessions daily (10.00 – 11.30, 1.00-2.30) and have approx 75 children in each group. Each session consists of a cinematic show followed by arts and crafts activities. Pairs of volunteers will be rostered on from 9.00am – 3.30pm. Volunteers can nominate how many days they wish to work. The work consists of assisting with setup, helping children with the activities, and assisting with clean up. There will be time during the day for coffee/lunch break. As a not-for-profit organisation we will not be able to provide lunch but we can provide a great park for you to eat your home-bought lunch in, and there is a good cafe just across the road! Parking is freely available as well.
We provide volunteers with branded gear ( lanyard) and at the end of the holiday each volunteer gets a reference from us and complimentary passes to the Stardome. If you are interested, please email davidb@stardome.org.nz , including your name and phone number so we can call you to discuss the details.

Volunteers

Become a stellar volunteer at Stardome Observatory
Volunteers make a real difference to us at Stardome Observatory and we are pleased to have some dedicated people on board but we really need to recruit some more help.
Volunteers are engaged in a wide variety of projects from operating telescopes, working in the shop, helping out with events, and assisting with the school holiday sessions.
As a volunteer you will be welcomed and looked after by our Programmes Manager and the Stardome team. You'll also get to know many Stardome staff during the comprehensive volunteer training programme. If you have some spare time (or know of someone who has) why not join us as a stellar volunteer. You do not have to be an expert astronomy we can help you along the way and you will also get to learn lots too. The basic prerequisites for volunteering are that you are 18 years or over, have a good grasp of the English language and a friendly smile. We welcome all who would like to give some time to help us and in making space science accessible to all of Auckland.
